Rebel Without a Cause, starring James Dean ( East of Eden, Giant ), tells the tale of 17 year old James Stark, a rebellious teen who can’t seem to stay out of trouble. We learn that whenever the rambunctious James does something bad, his morally weak parents decide its better to just move away rather than confront his problems. One of the most important scenes in the movie would have to be the staircase confrontation between James and his father. After discovering his father broken down in his wife’s apron, James decides to rip into him about his lack of strength. This scene really demonstrates Nicholas Ray’s, the director, attempt to show Jim Stark’s passion for mankind. Rebel Without a Cause, although not my favorite of this class’s lineup of movies, was still very enjoyable.
